Opening the debug console in Chrome, or even looking at the html source file (after it is loaded in the browser), make sure that all the paths there are valid (i.e. when you follow a link you get to it's content, and not an error). When something is not valid, fix the path (e.g. get rid of the server specific part and make sure you only refer to files that are part of your extension through paths like Marius KjeldahlMarius Kjeldahl
/js/jquery-123-min.js ).

I had a similar issue where I was not able to either install a CRX file into Chrome.
It turns out that since I had my Downloads folder set to a network mapped drive, it would not allow Chrome to install any extensions and would either do nothing (drag and drop on Chrome) or ask me to download the extension (if I clicked a link from the Web Store).
Setting the Downloads folder to a local disk directory instead of a network directory allowed extensions to be installed.

In case Chrome tells you 'This can only be added from the Chrome Web Store', you can try the following:

File format
This tool parses .CRX version 2 format documented by Google. In general, .CRX file format consist of few parts:
Magic header
Version of file format Public Key information and a package signatureZipped contents of the extension source codeMagic header is a signature of the file telling that this file is Chrome Extension. Using this header the operating system can determine the actual type of the file (MIME type is application/x-chrome-extension), and how should it be treaten (is it executable? is it a text file?). Then the window system can show beautiful icon to the user.
In .CRX files the magic header has a constant value Cr24 or 0x43723234.
The version is provided by vendor. The version bytes are 0x02000000.
The next part of the file contains the length of the public key information and the length of a digital signature.
All .CRX packages distributed via Chrome WebStore should have public key information and digital signature in order to make possible for browser to check that the package has been transmitted without modifications and that no additions or replacements were made.
After all of the header stuff, typically ending up on 307'th byte, comes the code of extension, stored as zip-archive. So the remainder of the .crx file is the well-known .zip archive.

.crx file opened in the hex editor called HexFiend (on Mac)The header part of a .crx file selected on the picture above. Obviously, you can extract the remaining .zip archive 'by hand' using any simple hex editor. In this example, we use handy HexFiend editor on Mac.
The CRX Extractor loads a file provided, checks a magic header, version and trims the file, so only .zip archive remains. Then it returns obtained .zip archive to user.

You can right click by using 2 fingers at once. This is the same for Microsoft's RD Client app for Android as well.

A file with the CRX file extension is a Chrome Extension file used to extend the functionality of the Google Chrome web browser through little programs that add additional features to the default browsing experience.
Most CRX files are downloaded through the Chrome Web Store, but since you can make your own Chrome extensions and install them offline, others may originate elsewhere or be loaded locally.
Some CRX files might instead be Links Games Course files or program files used by Autodesk's DWG TrueView program.
How to Open a CRX File
CRX files that are extension files are used by the Google Chrome web browser. Usually, CRX files are downloaded through Google's website and, therefore, installed to Chrome automatically and stored here by default:
However, this won't be the case for CRX files that you download outside of the Chrome Web Store.
You can install third-party, unofficial CRX files by accessing the chrome://extensions/ address in the URL bar in Chrome and enabling the Developer mode option at the top. Then, just drag and drop the CRX file into the Extensions window and confirm any prompts.
Learn how to add Chrome extensions to your browser if you need more help.
The Opera web browser can use CRX files, too, with the extension called Install Chrome Extension. The Vivaldi browser natively supports CRX based extensions as well.
Since a CRX file is actually just a renamed ZIP file, any archive/compression program, like PeaZip or 7-Zip (both free), should be able to open the file for expansion. However, doing this will only let you see the data that makes up the extension, not actually run the program.
Autodesk DWG TrueView uses CRX files, too, but the purpose for these files is unclear. The program most likely can not open CRX files, so they're probably just used by certain components of the software automatically and aren't intended to be opened manually.
If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the CRX file but it's the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open CRX files, see our How to Change File Associations in Windows guide for making that change in Windows.
How to Convert a CRX File
XPI (Firefox), EXE (Internet Explorer), and SAFARIEXTZ (Safari) files are similar to CRX files in that they're extension files used in those respective browsers. These formats, however, no matter their same intent (to extend functionality), can't be easily converted to or from each other's different formats.
However, one exception is that Chrome's CRX files can be installed in the Opera browser with the Download Chrome Extension mentioned earlier. This means you can install CRX files from the Chrome Web Store from right within the Opera browser.
You can also convert Opera extensions to Chrome extensions by renaming Opera's .NEX file to Chrome's .CRX file. This new CRX file must be installed to Chrome manually using the drag and drop technique explained above.
Keep in mind that CRX files are really just ZIP files, so you can actually rename the file to a .ZIP file to open it with a file zip/unzip program.
If you're looking to convert your CRX file to EXE for some kind of automatic install, your best bet is to try compiling it with an installer like Inno Setup.
Still Can't Open the File?
Be careful to read the file extension correctly. Some file formats append a suffix to the end of the file that looks a lot like it reads '.CRX' when it's really a letter or two off.
For example, CRX files are spelled very much like CXR files but are not the same format. CXR files are FMAT Plate Results files used with the FMAT 8100 HTS System. Another example can be seen with CXX files that are C++ Source Code files used with Microsoft Visual Studio.
The point here is to check the file extension and then research accordingly, looking for any information you can on the format the file is in, which will help you find the right program that can open it.
I'd like to download the .crx file of an extension from webstore, I use fiddler to analyze the network request when I install an extension from webstore and got it.
For example, for the extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bjclhonkhgkidmlkghlkiffhoikhaajg the download link is:
https://clients2.googleusercontent.com/crx/download/OgAAADQ_Loe5gfVPF2OUaB35tvex-NKlmA8V4K5YlWuvLCknMH7egLLmnMoFuCZePl_idE1GMf8jZC2KbjQqyyLDoDAAxlKa5eDp-z9frOppHWtQsRU3-iGrrrrA/extension_1_7_11.crx
Now I'm wondering if there is a universal method for get .crx of an extension, the problem is how did Google encryption bjclhonkhgkidmlkghlkiffhoikhaajg
into
OgAAADQ_Loe5gfVPF2OUaB35tvex-NKlmA8V4K5YlWuvLCknMH7egLLmnMoFuCZePl_idE1GMf8jZC2KbjQqyyLDoDAAxlKa5eDp-z9frOppHWtQsRU3-iGrrrrA ?
any idea will be helpful.

For one of my extensions I had to download other CRXs automatically knowing only extension ID. I solved this by opening the following URL:
this page will forward you to that
https://clients2.googleusercontent.com/crx/download/ address.
I don't remember already how I came up with that URL (it was either in page source somewhere or I used network sniffer), but it has been working great for me since last December, so it looks reliable.

The CRX file itself can be directly downloaded from
https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx?response=redirect&prodversion=[PRODVERSION]&acceptformat=crx2,crx3&x=id%3D[EXTENSIONID]%26uc
(New in 2018)
acceptformat=crx2,crx3 instructs the server to also respond with extensions in the CRX3 format (instead of 204 No Content when the extension is not available as CRX2).
If the extension you're using contains OS-specific modules (e.g. NaCl), then you have to add additional parameters (
os , arch , nacl_arch ).
For the full logic of generating a complete CRX download URL, see the
get_crx_url function in https://github.com/Rob--W/crxviewer/blob/master/src/cws_pattern.js.
This is a part of the Chrome Extension Source Viewer extension, available in the Chrome Web Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-extension-source-v/jifpbeccnghkjeaalbbjmodiffmgedin
Note that opening the previous URL in Chrome will not trigger a download because Chrome automatically intercepts responses whose Rob WRob W
Content-Type is set to application/x-chrome-extension . If you want to programatically download the crx file in a Chrome extension, change the MIME-type to application/octet-stream (e.g. as done in src/lib/crx-to-zip.js ).

I wrote a small python script to automate that process what @serg @Rob W
you can use that also.
This is how you have to use.

Create a bookmark add the javascript function as the address. Browse to the chrome extension you want to download then click on the bookmark and it should start downloading.
Thanks

This is a lower-tech way of doing it than to use fiddler, and I realize this is three years old now, but I always look to see if someone else has solved the problem. So I found someone did, and I just used their solution several times successfully. Their solution is an extension that can download other extensions, called Give Me CRX:
BewcBewc
Also, I recommend to try this website http://crxextractor.com.Here you can download an extension by it's Chrome Webstore URL and extract it's source code in the browser, no additional software required, and everything get done in a click or two.

None of the manually ways in this post works for me so i searched for a URL to download the extension direct.Find this and works perfect for me.
You must replace ###EXTENSION_ID### with the extension id from the chrome shop. Its part of the URL.
Example Google Translate Extension:
SchmidkoSchmidko
You can use the below URL template,
The PRODVERSION is the Chrome version. (get it from settings -> Help -> About Google Chrome).Ex : Version
69.0.3497.100 (Official Build) (64-bit)
The EXTENSIONID is the id for the extension. Ex : Here is a sample plugin, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jetbrains-ide-support/hmhgeddbohgjknpmjagkdomcpobmllji?hl=en the id is
hmhgeddbohgjknpmjagkdomcpobmllji
Chrome Bureau A Distance Crx California
So sample request to download will be https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx?response=redirect&prodversion=69.0.3497.100&x=id%3Dhmhgeddbohgjknpmjagkdomcpobmllji%26uc
