Author Note:
Hello everyone, I would like to say that the Binding of Isaac Rebirth trailer was creepy but the game is coming back, so I also want to say I never play the game, only the demo…but I did see tons of gameplay so yeah..ENJOY.
Chaos's POV
How relaxing, in my own little secret room anyway from Isaac, him and that annoying loud bombs, why did the beggar give him so fucking many bombs. Well at least I am in here, those dumbasses are outside dying. And I'm watching them die on a small T.V.
It's funny thinking they could really win, beside Isaac is weird too. Why does he have some many personalities? First it was Isaac then he put on this blond wig and calls himself Magdalene, they an eye patch who he claims he is Cain. I don't get the whole black wig and eye liner and the name Eve. And don't get me started on the Fez and the Judas get up.
But I'm not so perfect either. Most of those other Loki's want to give up some of their powers and a bit of their life for the mark. Sure I not as red or can spawn boom flies or teleport around. But I still could make illusions and transform into anything I see just a different color.
Oh look Isaac kill his mom…again for the fifth time…today.
'There is nothing on anymore.' I said getting up.
I would use my wings to fly around but I have to stay low since I might or might not play hot potato with Wrath…but god that was fun.
I sigh and open the secret tunnel to get out. I smell all the blood all around and needed something to eat. 'Borrowing 'some money from the dead bodies I went to find one of the secret stores that Isaac can't find.
I found one and open the door to see most of the monsters chatting and practicing their attacks. At least some go to monster school but anyway FOOD.
I ran in front of everyone. I do that every time just to piss some of the others off. Sometimes I just wish I could marry myself.
'What the hell Chaos.'
'You little fucking demon bastard!'
'You little pink turd.'
I stop and look the around monsters who said the last thing. 'WHO SAID THAT!?' I yelled
Most monster back away and some even pointed at a who now look scared.
'Oh this is going to be fun.' I said cracking my knuckles as the maw try to run.
10 minutes later.
I had the maw arm behind his back and his head in the dirt.
'I AM NOT PINK JUST A LIGHTER SHADE OF RED!' I yell.
'Ok please oh please just stop.' The beg.
I nod and rip his head off and threw it somewhere into the watching crowd.
'Now that is out the way.' I said dusting my hands off. I turn to the goblin who was severing food to the monster.
'Can I have two meat burgers?' I ask the goblin as I handed him the money.
He look at the money and shook his head. 'Ok who did you steal it from?' He ask
'What me stealing, why I never.' I said of course I didn't hide the smirk
'Chaos I am not a fucking idiot.' The goblin said crossing his arms
'Fine I took it off some dead bodies happy now?' I ask crossing my own arms
'Chaos you know I can't take stolen or rob money.' The goblin said.
'But how I will earn money?' I ask
'Work for mom and take down Isaac so mom can finish him off.' The goblin said.
'But then I need to get the mark and that hurts.' I said.
'Well too bad that the only job so you better start.' The goblin said.
'I could kill Isaac so easily.' I said.
'And how do you plan to do that Chaos?' The goblin asks crossing his arms again.
'If I kill Isaac then can I get some food here?' I ask
'If you even get close to him I let you have a burger deal.' The goblin said.
'Fine it's a fucking deal.' I said before walking out.
After a walk back home I try to think of a plan on how to kill Isaac. Maybe an overdose of pills, or a trick card that kills him, or I could rig the blood donation to take all of his blood or troll bombs rain down from the sky.
I was interrupted when my stomach growl. Oh yeah I didn't eat and I did beat up a maw. I try to look for any scarps of food but found none then I heard my tunnel door knock. I sigh and went to open it up to see War.
'Oh hi war what brings you here.' I ask opening the tunnel door.
'Well beside the fact about your deal with the food goblin.' War said.
'Oh that yeah.' I said laughing a small bit.
'Look I brought you this since you didn't eat.' War said giving me a bag.
I open it up and saw a meat burger and a small blood water.
'Oh thanks War freaking dumb goblin.' I said eating most of the food in a hurry. After I finish War started asking more questions.
'So how do YOU plan on killing Isaac anyway?' War asks.
'Not that hard many great ideas but.' I said
'But you have no idea how to really do them.' War said.
'Uh yeah that.' I said.
'You do know Isaac will just kill you and you end up in the monster hospital many times before you need to get the mark and work for Mom.' War said.
'No I like being free and playing tricks on everyone.' I said
'But then you can never eat at the food court.' War said.
I sigh and try to think of an idea and by that I mean flying around in anger to the point I sigh again and went back to War.
'What does Isaac do when he not here running and crying like a little bitch?' I ask
'I think he hangs around friends, if any, then goes to his school but monsters can't go there or we can get kill by Mom remember last time someone try to do that, and that monster ended up in the hospital for year.' War explains.
'That why I can do this.' I said transforming into a human person like Isaac only I had my arm wings my skin a light pink, black horns and small claws.
'How did you do that Chaos?' War ask
'Well when you take the mark you just give up the ability to make illusions and to transform.' I said.
'But why do you need to look like that?' War ask.
I just smile letting him putting the pieces together.
'Oh for the love of god don't you even think about it.' War said.
'War it pop in my head and I am doing it so there nothing you can do to stop me.' I said.
'Well fine but how will you hide your arm wings, horn and claws?' War ask.
'I can wear a hood and gloves.' I said.
'But your wings, what about them.' War said
'I don't know but I think of something.' I said.
'Oh I have a wonderful idea follow me.' War said taking my hand and he took me somewhere.
After a while I finally ask.
'War where the fuck are we?' I ask.
'Oh were at death's room.' War said.
'But why.' I ask
'But you need to stay here for a little.' War said going in Death's house
After a while both War and Death came out with a razor sharp scythe
'Oh I get it now.' I said before trying to dash out before I felt myself go slow.
'Oh so where do I need to cut?' I heard death ask.
'His extra arms he doesn't need them.' War said
'I SWEAR IF YOU EVEN GO NEAR ME I WILL HAUNT YOUR DAMN DREAMS.' I yelled
'Oh calm down this will only hurt for a long time.' Death said as he lift his scythe in the air.
I try to get free but felt myself get lighter and hit a wall from being able to speed up again. I also felt blood drip down my shoulder and back. I saw War and Death walk up to me. 'So how are you feeling Chaos?' Death ask cleaning his scythe of my blood.
I open my mouth and. ' AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU MOTHERFUCKER THAT SHIT FUCKING HURT MY GOD!' I yell in pain.
'Oh don't be such a baby now go do you little plan or something.' Death said going back in his room. War look back at me.
'Sooooo want your arms back?' War said holding my arms back.
'JUST…put them in my room.' I said as I made sure I didn't faint from blood lost.
'Ok but how will you get to where Isaac lives?' War ask.
'Oh I have a very smart and well plan out strategy that will not fail.' I said.
After the plan has taken place.
Isaac had just defeated his mom and was about to enter the chest to get home but then.
'SURPISE!' I yell tackling Isaac into the chest but then I black out.
I felt cold and didn't see anything but did I just open my eyes.
I groan waking up rubbing my head and look around.
The room I was in was blank just nothing in there expect a chest and a window. I turn and saw Isaac but he was asleep. I knew I needed to leave now. I heard heavy footsteps and turn to the window.
I try to open it up but found it lock. I look around for something to help but nothing. I sigh and remember my claws and try to cut open the window. There was a loud screeching sound but I continue anyway.
I smile as a circle pop open and I begin to climb out.
'IIIIIISSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCC!' I heard someone yell.
That was sigh to get the fuck out and oh is that a hill. I let go and roll down the whole hill and felt small thorns go into my body.
'Ow,ow,ow,ow oh look a penny.' I finally hit the bottom of the hill and pick the rocks and thorns out my side and my arms and legs.
I sigh and saw it was night time. It felt nice not to be around the scent of blood and bombs gunpowder. I felt cold and realize I was naked. I needed to find some cloths or I could freeze to death, why did it had to be winter. Oh was it fall, I don't really see snow.
I sigh and saw a cloths store. I went to the store and it was close. Good makes this easier. I grab a rock and check the weight by throwing it straight up on my hand and chuck it at the window of the store. All of the glass came off and I was able to jump in the store without cutting myself.
I look around and grab a few cloths or at least a few that I had like. After a while I pick a plain red shirt and black pants with a single red strip on it. I retracted my claws the best I can and put on a pair of black fingerless gloves with a skull on it. I also grab a black hoodie so I could hide my horns but just in case I also grab a small red and black color wool hat.
I look at my shirt and saw a black marker. I wrote on it saying with a small thin black tail with a triangle on the end of the L.
'Perfect.' I said to myself. I pile a batch of cloths like a blanket and pillow and fell asleep. I would kill Isaac and I take his head as prove. But for now sleep sounds great.

Symbol of Chaos
The Sigil of Chaos, symbol of chaos magic
Symbol of Chaos
The Symbol of Chaos originates from Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion stories and its dichotomy of Law and Chaos. In them, the Symbol of Chaos comprises eight arrows in a radial pattern. In contrast, the symbol of Law is a single upright arrow. It is also called the Arms of Chaos, the Arrows of Chaos, the Chaos Star, the Chaos Cross, the Chaosphere (when depicted as a three-dimensional sphere), or the Symbol of Eight.
Alternative symbols of chaos (owing nothing to Moorcock) include The Sacred Chao of Discordianism and The Five Fingered Hand of Eris.
Overview[edit]
Moorcock has stated that he conceived this symbol while writing the first Elric of Melniboné stories in the early 1960s. It was subsequently adopted into the pop-cultural mainstream, turning up in such places as modern occult traditions and role-playing games.
There are a number of traditional symbols that have the same geometrical pattern as Moorcock's symbol of Chaos, such as any of various eight-pointed stars, the star of Ishtar/Venus, the Indian Dharmacakra and the Wheel of the Year, but none of these were symbols of chaos and their limbs are not arrows.
The '8' of Wands in Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot deck features prominently an eight-pointed star with arrows at the ends. Crowley described the card as representing 'energy' scattering at 'high velocity' that had managed to create the depicted eight-pointed figure.
Moorcock said about his version,[1]
The origin of the Chaos Symbol was me doodling sitting at the kitchen table and wondering what to tell Jim Cawthorn the arms of Chaos looked like. I drew a straightforward geographical quadrant (which often has arrows, too!) – N, S, E, W – and then added another four directions and that was that – eight arrows representing all possibilities, one arrow representing the single, certain road of Law. I have since been told that it is an 'ancient symbol of Chaos' and if it is then it confirms a lot of theories about the race mind. .. As far as I know the symbol, drawn by Jim Cawthorn, first appeared on an Elric cover of Science Fantasy in 1962, then later appeared in his first comic version of Stormbringer done by Savoy ISBN0-7045-0226-7.
An even-more-chaotic asymmetrical representation was by Walter Simonson in the Michael Moorcock's Multiverse comic (and subsequent graphic novel: ISBN1-56389-516-1).
Games[edit]
The symbol's first appearance in a commercial role-playing game (RPG) was in TSR's Dungeons & Dragons supplement, Deities & Demigods[2] which included the gods, monsters, and heroes from Moorcock's Elric books as one of 17 mythological and fictional 'pantheons'. Copyright problems led to its omission from later editions.[citation needed]
It then turned up quite naturally in Chaosium's Stormbringer RPG (one edition of which was published as Elric!). The 1987 edition of Stormbringer was published jointly by Chaosium in the U.S. and Games Workshop (GW) in the UK.
Moorcock's eight-arrow symbol of Chaos was subsequently used by Games Workshop and used as a frequent graphic element in their own Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 games and the related miniature figures, representing the forces of Chaos.
Star of Chaos appears as the penultimate boss of Gradius Gaiden, in the passage between one of the last bosses (Big Ducker) and Final Boss(He shuffles the Final Enemy of the other Gradius)
It has also appeared in Bungie's Xbox 360 game Halo 3: ODST as an emblem for playable multiplayer characters.
Xscape off the hook torrent. It also shows in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, in the home of Aleister Grout, the Malkavian primogen.
It further appears on an item called a 'chaos device' in Heretic and HeXen.
In Warcraft II, the Orc side's target mouse cursor has the form of chaos symbol. The symbol also appears in several artworks, which can be seen in game's manual and during mission briefings.[3][4]
The Symbol of Chaos shows up in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth expansion Afterbirth as the item 'Chaos'.
The Chaosphere is a pick-up in the open source twin-stick-shooter heXon with a variety of effects.
The symbol also appears in the background during a dialogue scene in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Hearts of Stone, an expansion to Witcher 3, located in the home of a professor attempting to ward off a malevolent demonic entity that plays a key role in the expansion's plot.
A variant on the symbol is seen on the foreheads of the Silent Monks in 2017's Divinity: Original Sin 2
Other modern uses[edit]

Successfully Complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding character:
???: Defeat Mom's Heart ten times. ??? starts with three Soul Hearts, and has The Poop (spawns a poop, recharges once per room).
Azazel: Make three deals with the Devil in one run. Azazel has the '0 - The Fool' ability, which can teleport you to the current floor's starting room. He starts with three Demon Hearts as health. When a Demon Heart is lost, damage is dealt to all enemies in the room. He can fire a short-range Brimstone beam, and can fly over hazards.
Cain: Have at least 55 pennies at once. Cain starts with one regular key, and has the 'Lucky Foot' ability, which increases Luck.
Eden: Successfully complete 'The Womb' chapter. Using Eden requires a special token obtained by defeating Mom's Heart or It Lives.
Eve: Do not collect any Hearts (Red, Spirit, Eternal, or Demon) for two floors. Eve has the 'Dead Bird' (dead bird spawns when hit and attacks enemies) and 'W'hore Of Babylon' (increased damage and speed when at one heart) abilities.
Judas: Defeat Satan. Judas starts with three pennies, and has the Book Of Belial, which increases damage for the current room. It recharges once every three rooms.
Lazarus: Have four Spirit Hearts at once. Lazarus has a random pill. He can revive once upon death with a Red Heart container and the 'Anemic' ability (leaves blood trail in current room that damages enemies when damage is taken).
Magdalene: Have at least seven Red Heart containers at once. Magdalene starts with a Yum Heart, which heals one heart upon use. It recharges once every four rooms.
Samson: Do not take damage for two floors. Samson has the 'Bloody Lust' ability, which increases his damage dealt each time he takes damage. The bonus damage resets with each floor.
The Lost: Die in the following specific manners, in order in the same game session without any other type of death in-between. Have Isaac die by a Mulliboom's explosion in either the Basement or Cellar. Have Magdalene die by your own bomb in either the Caves or Catacombs. Have Judas die by Mom. Have Azazel die by Satan during his second phase in Sheol. The Lost can fly, cannot pick up hearts or have health increase, Devil Room items can be taken without penalty, and dies if the game is left idle.

This trick requires the Blank Card (from defeating Isaac in the Cathedral with Eden), Jera Rune (from completing the 'High Brow' challenge), and the D20 (from defeating ??? in the Chest with Isaac). Having the D6 (from defeating Isaac in the Cathedral with ???) is also helpful. Start by finding a room that has at least one battery on the ground. Alternately, spawn them with the 48 Hour Energy pill. Remove all other items from the room. Use charges from somewhere else to copy those batteries with the Blank Card and Jera until you have at least three of them. Use batteries from the room to copy batteries for a net gain. Keep doing this until the room is filled with batteries to virtually have infinite charges for any activated item. Then, obtain a Judgement card (from Wheel Of Fortune cloning, Tarot Deck, etc.). Use the Blank Card and Jera in a new room to copy a large number of Judgement cards. Go to another new room, and copy a large number of coins, keys and hearts. Note: Try spawning a few Beggars and bombing them. Use the resources in this room to refill when required. If you need a D20, use the Judgement cards to spawn Beggars and farm them until you get one from a Key Beggar chest. Finally, use the following four steps to complete the process:
1. Fill the largest room available with items such as coins. A room is considered full when it starts replacing old items with new ones.
2. Use the D20 to reroll the items, open all the chests, pick up any passive items, pills, and other helpful objects and repeat. Avoid collecting items that are not needed.
3. Once a D6 drops, repeat the steps in a smaller room to get a few activated items. Swap any activated items that you want to keep elsewhere.
4. Reroll the items in the main room with the D6, collect anything desired, and repeat the process. Use the D20 to refill as needed.
Collect the listed item to gain the corresponding effect:
Yung Bans, Ski Mask the Slump God & Lil Yachty9. Mp3 dance music.
- Aquarius: Leave trail of tears that damage enemies.
- Aries: Movement speed increases, and grows horns on head that can damage enemies.
- Cancer: Get three spirit hearts, the ability to inflict poison on contact, and convert damage over time into half hearts.
- Capricorn: All stats increased, get one bomb, and key and coin.
- Gemini: Gemini's baby appears on Isaac and damages nearby enemies.

- Libra: Get six keys, bombs and coins, and have all stats balanced.
- Pisces: Tear upgrade and their knockback is increased.

Hi there! This is a general guide for when you should take Chaos in the Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. I’ve seen a lot of discussion as to whether Chaos is a good item, and — with the help of some people who have done a lot of great work in determining the probabilities of a few occurrences in Isaac — this guide should help make a few Chaos decisions clearer.
Before we start, here are a few assumptions I’ll be making:
- Your shop is upgraded to max level. This means that you’ll be getting 1-2 items per shop.
- You’ve unlocked every item in the game. (This is admittedly not an assumption that will apply to most people, but for the purposes of making the math easier we’ll make it anyway.)
- From floor 2 to floor 8, you don’t take any red heart damage until the boss is defeated. (This is also not always a fair assumption to make, but — again — it makes this guide easier.)
- You don’t run into an angel room on the run. This is not always something that will happen — Krampus or no items on Floor 2 are all too common — but it will simplify things for the time being.
- All items are equally weighted with Chaos. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it will simplify things.
- Here’s the big one: You’re playing the devil room strat — that is, you want to maximize the number of devil-room items you get over the course of the game. This is admittedly a simplistic model, but since many players (myself included) use this as a general strategy I feel it’s a worthwhile strategy to model Chaos usage after.
To clarify, what does Chaos do?
From the Wiki: “Causes items to be chosen from random Item Pools.” (We’re going to ignore the pickups it drops for the purposes of this guide, since unless you’re getting a Curved Horn/Cancer or a bomb which uncovers a Small Rock they probably won’t swing your game in the same way the item’s main effect does.)
So, how many items are in the relevant item pools? According to the Wiki, there are 50 items in the Devil Room pool and 436 items in general. That means that, with Chaos, approximately one out of every nine items you uncover will come from the Devil Room pool. From this, we can simplify the optimal Chaos strategy like so: You should pick up Chaos if, for the rest of the game, the number of items you expect to pick up from devil rooms make up less than one-ninth of the total number of items you expect to pick up.
How do we calculate this ratio? First, let’s break down how many items, on average, you should expect to see in a devil room. Thanks to this exceedingly helpful post from /u/RoboFleksnes, we can determine how frequently certain combinations of items appear:
- 0 items: 22.44% of the time
- 1 item: 28.2%
- 2 items: 43.76%
- 3 items: 5.61%
So, using weighted averages: 0*.2244 + 1*.282 + 2*.4376 + 3*.0561 = 1.33 items in your average devil room (not counting Krampus fights).
Next, how many devil rooms should we expect to see? Assuming no red heart damage and no other additions (like Black Candle or blowing up a beggar), before multipliers you should have a 134% chance of seeing a devil room from floors 2-8. Of course, if you saw a devil room last floor that chance multiplies by .25 to become approximately 1/3, and if you saw a devil room two floors before it multiplies by .5 to become approximately 2/3. This means that the chances of not seeing a devil room for two straight floors are (1-1/3) * (1-2/3), which is approximately 1/5. Since you have a 1/3 chance of seeing two devil rooms in a row, I think it’s fair to assume for the purposes of this guide that you’ll see one devil room every two floors. There are easy ways to improve those chances, like blowing up beggars/shopkeepers, but we’ll ignore those for now.
So, then, how many devil room items will you run into over the course of the whole game? Since there are seven floors on which a devil room can spawn (not counting the Joker card), you should see 3.5 devil rooms per game. Assuming you’ll fight Krampus in one of these, that means you’ll have 2.5 non-Krampus rooms a game, each spawning 1.33 items. This means that over the course of the game, you’ll see 2.5*1.33 devil room items, which we’ll round to 3. (It’s more like 3.3, but you can’t get .3 of an item at the end of the day.)
How many items can you expect to see in general? Let’s ignore items like Restock/There’s Options/More Options and black markets for now. You’ll see six item rooms, each with one item; you’ll see six shops, each with 1-2 items. (Assuming one of these shops is Greed or Super Greed, let’s be generous and assume nine shop items per game.) You’ll also run into six boss items (not counting Polaroid/Negative, which aren’t affected by Chaos anyway) — for the purposes of this guide, let’s assume you run into one fixed-item boss, like C.H.A.D. or Conquest. This means that you can expect to see 3 devil + 6 item + 9 shop + 5 boss = 23 items over the course of a game, not counting Boss Rush/The Hush/Chest/Dark Room.
So, this means that if the first item you pick up in the game — without even examining the first-floor item room until getting the fifteen cents required — is Chaos, you can expect to see about 22 items affected by it. This means that 3 out of these 22 items should be devil-room ones, for a ratio of devil-room to non-devil-room of about 1/7.
When determining when to take Chaos, we further assume a few things:
- Items found in The Chest/Dark Room are unimportant. In my experience, 99% of runs that get down to the last floor are pretty easy wins at that point (unless you’re playing Lost/Keeper). If you’re powerful enough to get down to the Chest, you’re probably powerful enough to mow through it. The spikes in difficulty between Depths and Womb and between Womb and Cathedral/Sheol are far more dramatic than the spike between Cathedral and Chest, and if you make it past the first two spikes you’ll probably make it past the third as well (except for the rare case in which you’re frantically bombing your way through to the boss).
- You’re able to buy everything in the Shop. This is an unfeasible assumption, but, again, it simplifies things.
- You won’t run into any Black Markets. They’re unlikely enough that, unless you have an Ehwaz/Blank Card or a Shovel, you shouldn’t build your strategy around them.
- You’re not gaming the reroll system. You could technically reroll item pedestals over and over, but given that most people save their rerolls for Devil Rooms anyway, we’re going to ignore them for the time being.
We’ve arrived at the million-dollar question: when should you take Chaos?
Do NOT take Chaos if:
- You don’t expect to hit Boss Rush or The Hush. Even if you run into Chaos on the first floor, one of every seven items you get should be a devil room one — a lot better than the baseline one-ninth you get from Chaos. And that’s given the odds we’ve constructed, which assume fewer devil room items proportionally than you’ll probably actually get (since we rounded down with devil rooms and assumed generously for shops and fixed-item bosses).
- You expect to hit either Boss Rush or Hush, but are seeing Chaos after Caves I. The extra four items are helpful, especially if you run into a devil deal before picking up Chaos on Caves I or so, but they’re counteracted by the six or seven items from the first three floors which aren’t affected by Chaos.
- You run into Chaos in the Depths or later. At this point, you probably have at least two devil rooms left, so we’ll assume that you have two devil room items left (1.33 per room, subtracting some for the chance that you haven’t yet seen Krampus). You also at most have two item rooms, three shops (Hush included) for (let’s say) five items, two boss items, and somewhere between seven and nine items from Boss Rush and Hush. This means that, at absolute maximum, you’ll be able to see 20 items, 2 of which are devil room ones, and pick up 13 of them (since untouched boss rush/Hush items disappear). Even assuming some of the boss rush/Hush items are worthless, the 16 or so “pickable” items still make for a 1/8 ratio of devil to total, better than the base Chaos 1/9.
DO take Chaos if:
- You get it very early on and expect to hit Boss Rush and/or Hush. After enough non-devil items, you’ll be seeing a slight advantage on the base 1/9 from Chaos.
- You expect to take a lot of red heart damage over the course of the game. I know we assumed the player wouldn’t take any, but that just isn’t feasible for most players. If you expect to lose out on a lot of Devil Room chances because of red heart troubles, Chaos can help pump some Devil Room items into your pool.
Hopefully this helps you make some good decisions! General rule of thumb: unless you’re really confident about the number of items you’ll find in the game, you should probably leave Chaos be. It’s sad, since it’s a really fun item, but if you’re trying to optimize it’s probably worth forgetting.
